On a battered ship off the isle of Sampetra a crew of otters and squirrels raced to
save their families from the bottomless depths of the sea. Their ship was begining to take
on water and the main mast had been shatered by a collosal wave. The ship's crew began
to lose heart until a young squirrel shouted from the top of the splintered mast that there is
land ahead. The crew raced dogedly to bring their ship to shore using whatever they could
find as they paddled towards the island. After hours of strenuos labor they finally managed
to nose their ship onto the beach. The crew of the Spirit immediatly leapt from the ship
onto the shore taking few personal possesion knowing that a wave could free the ship
from the beach head at any time and take the sinking ship back out to sea were any beast
trapped aboard would meet a certain watery grave. The crew of the Spirit had just finished
abandoning the ship as a monstrous wave struck the shore with such force that it knocked
several members of the crew that were still near the wreckage back sprawling onto the
sand. The good ship Spirit freed by the wave was then carried out to sea on her final
voyage to the bottom of the sea. The captain of the vessel Rangapaw a squirrel with a tall
and sinewy body and fur that was a deep almost crimson red wispered out to his sinking
ship "thank you for brining us to shore safely and may your timbers rest forevermore
peacefully on the ocean bottom." Rangapaw's wife Firelight took her husband by the arm
and held it comfortingly and her husband turned and said"we must find a shelter to stay at
and wait out this storm I will take some of my crew and search for provisions." His whife
responded with a simple nod and left to gather the elderly and young to find shelter.
Rangapaw took three strong otters with him and a young squirrel named Firepaw. While
searching for provisions the group stumbled upon a vermin encampment. Rangapaw stops
his group and whispers "head back to the beach I will meet you there." Fortunately due to
the poor visibility caused by the rain the vermin do not spot the the band. When Firepaw
and the others reach the beach they find Firelight waiting for them she guides them to a
cave carved into a cliff face high above the crashing surf against the base of the cliff far
below. Firelight then converses shortly with Firepaw and leaves the cave once more.
Inside the cave there is dry grass to sit on along the edges of the cave and a glowing fire in
the caves center made with dry wood found in the cave. The weary travelers soon fall
asleep but Firepaw remains ever vigilant awaiting Rangapaw and Firelight's return. The
little squirrel soon became restless and could wait no longer and sets out in search of his
two elders. Firepaw traveled over the rain slickened cliff face and then to the beach and
rejoices when he sees some figures heading his way but then quickly realizes the need for
caution and hides behind a small boulder. Soon he hears a gruff voice of a hare call out
quickly we must move before those blighters catch up with us. Firepaw then decides that a
hare posses no threat to him and abandons his hidding spot to speak to the creatures he
hears in the darkness. When he arrives he finds Firelight aiding other creatures along.
Firepaw then rushes up to great Firelight. Firelight sees him and says "hurry back to the
cave young'n we'll soon catch up." Firepaw then catches a glimpse of a badger in the
darkness his features illuminated by a bolt of lightning overhead. He then turns and rushes
back to the cave where he sits and waits for his companions return. A little while later
Firepaw stumbles into the cave wet and exausted. She is followed by a group of creatures
they all help her to her feet and aid her to the fire. She then says to Firepaw " Rangapaw
will be here little matey don't you worry your little head about him he is making sure none
of those vermin followed us." Then Rangapaw appears and laughs heartily " I suppose that
will teach those blighters to enslave others." The crew of the Spirit awakened by his laugh
are startled to see the new creatures but soon begin conversing with the new-commers and
begin making new friends. Then Rangapaw stands up and says in a grim voice "crew of
the Spirit I am afraid I have bad news we have been stranded on a island that is rampant
with bloodthirsty enslaving vermin. I have been informed by one of the captives we freed
tonight that this is the isle of Sampetra. I am going to propose that we stand up and
oppose the evil forces that wreak havok appon this island and liberate it!" Then voices
begin to ring out.
"Yes we could make this island safe for our young"
"We can build our homes here and sleep at night without fear"
"Together we shall be the Liberators Of Sampetra!"
A mighty cheer arose."Together for a free Sampetra!"
Thus begining the battle for Sampetra.
